Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

After a painful breakup, Joel (Jim Carrey) finds that his ex-girlfriend has undergone a procedure to erase him entirely from her memory. Feeling betrayed and heartbroken, Joel decides to do the same. After having reached the point of no return, Joel regrets his decision and starts a journey through his own mind in a seemingly futile attempt to hide his memories from those he asked to delete them. Along the way, there are some jaw-dropping twists, the kind that makes you internalize ancient philosophical questions and think about your own situation.

As you will see, this movie is a fascinating exploration of the subjective world of the mind, and raises philosophical questions about choices, personal identity, memory, the self and other subjects.

Oddly enough, some of this technology, at least in rudimentary form, is already starting to make itself an actual possibility, as you can learn in this Radio Lab episode and this documentary about memory.
