Assume the big bang is true, for the sake of argument, and that the universe really started then (I won't get into the logical problems this last part creates).
So, in the beginning there was only energy... in other words, in the beginning there was only physics--perhaps in the form of thermodynamics. Then, as the energy started cooling off, matter was born... and a universe composed exclusively of physical laws gave way to chemistry and chemical laws. Subsequently, matter, having mass, started gravitating toward more mass and creating solids and liquids, which eventually led to the birth of biology. Then biology led to behavior, and behavior to psychology.
To recap: physics leads to chemistry, chemistry to biology, biology to behavior, behavior to consciousness...
