For such a brilliant man who made very significant contributions to the world of applied mathematics with his projective geometry and probability theory, Pascal sure messed things up with his famous wager, arguing that it is better to believe in the existence of God than not to believe. One of the major problems, of course, is that Pascal assumed a very specific characterization of an ultimately arbitrary God for whose existence there is no more evidence than for any other deity.
