In medieval times, and long before Islam became associated with modern terrorism and fundamentalism, it was actually the center of the enlightened world. It is thanks to them that the texts of the ancient Greeks philosophers, mathematicians, historians, poets, etc. managed to survive the sack of Roman violence and vandalism. We would never have known the texts of people like Aristotle if it weren't for this grand civilization's tolerance and acceptance of external cultural forces; surely a lesson for us all today, whatever our belief denomination.
