Richard Dawkins - Nice Guys Finish First

This is a video of a documentary narrated by Richard Dawkins, where he defends the views expressed in his book, The Selfish Gene. Much of the controversy is directly derived from blatant misunderstanding of the thesis of his book. Many people, both liberals and democrats, took his scientific paradigm to espouse some form of social darwinism and the oh-so-always-misinterpreted slogan of 'the survival of the fittest.'

It should be noted that no scientific theory logically entails any kind of moral prescriptive or evaluative moral agenda, so it is logically fallacious to attempt to claim that social darwinism is derived from evolutionary theory. As David Hume famously noted, no "is" implies an "ought." Facts about the world have nothing to do with values, and no prescription can be logically derived from any description of the world without some additional auxiliary claim.

While I don't fully agree with Dawkins in believing that the gene is the only possible unit of selection, since I subscribe to multi-level selection theory, the documentary is really interesting, educational and thought provoking.

The video quality is not that great, but who cares? The content itself is great...
