The Mystery of Consciousness

This article from the last edition of Time Magazine, written by Steven Pinker, is a really good and concise summary of many of the conceptual problems associated with philosophy of mind and the study of consciousness, such as: the problem of free will, the existence of an immaterial soul, the basis of moral consideration, the problem of other minds, subjective experience vs. objective mechanical structures, and the evolution of consciousness. Truly a good article to introduce lay people to the fascinating world of philosophy and/or cognitive science.
